There's No Doubt That the Teething Stage For A Baby is Stressful. Your Patience Is Tried and Baby is Not Happy During this Time - Help Has Arrived!
When babies are teething, they put things in their mouth not just because they are curious about the texture of it. They want to STOP THE PAIN!
Babies want to bite and chew things. The closer the tooth gets to coming through the gum, the more painful it becomes. Baby will chew and chew until relief (by the tooth breaking through the gum) is achieved. The best thing to do is to give your child something safe to chew on.
There are natural products that aide in this process. Homeopathic cookies or biscuits are great for giving baby something safe to chew. If you're looking for relief for a teething baby, I've found (and used) a number of things that have worked wonders for my girls.
Teething Tablets...
Homeopathic tablets with chamomile have been a life-saver for me, especially at night. By just giving her two or three tablets you get a happy, content baby. The tablets dissolve almost immediately. The directions may say to insert them under the tongue but if you just get them in baby's mouth by the cheek, they'll stay in just long enough to melt which takes (literally) two seconds.
Clove Remedy...
A natural remedy, clove oil works well also. It warms and numbs the gum which provides temporary relief. Be sure to use only a small amount as an upset stomach can occur if too much is used.
Natural Licorice Stick...
The natural licorice stick works well as a natural, homemade remedy. Make sure you use the stick - it's not the same as the candy. You can find the licorice stick in most health or natural food stores. The sensation that the stick provides is cooling and it will also numb the gum as baby chews on it.
Pure Vanilla Extract...
Another natural remedy is pure vanilla extract. Vanilla has been known to provide relief from anxiety as it's a very calming extract. Baby will get relief as the alcohol in it provides a warming, numbing sensation. The calming affect of vanilla may help baby sleep as well. Vanilla is also known to soothe an upset stomach. If your baby's stomach is upset due to the extra slobber being swallowed or just from the added stress, the vanilla will definitely help there.
No matter what you choose to do, you'll know that by choosing to naturally treat your baby's teething symptoms, you won't be introducing unhealthy chemicals into their little bodies which could potentially create more problems.
You know, a warm cup of chamomile could help YOU too! Don't worry though, this stage too shall pass and before you know it, you're baby will have a full set of teeth!
